A little more on the Tech Behind Gutenberg for WordPress

Built with modern technology.  Gutenberg was built on GitHub using the WordPress REST API, JavaScript and React.

The support for currently existing WordPress functionality will remain even as the transition takes place.

If you are curious how your shortcodes, meta-boxes, and custom post types will change in WordPress, don’t worry, they won’t.  The developers built transition paths for all of them.

For the current existing version of WordPress, you will need to download Gutenberg to use it.  However, once WordPress 5.0 comes out, Gutenberg will be automatically included.

If you want to stay with the classic editor on WordPress, it will be available for WordPress 5.0 users as a plugin.
